What is the Average Cost of Groceries per Month? Average Groceries Price

The average cost of groceries per month varies from person to person and family to family. The USDA has established four different consumption levels for American families of four people. These levels are: thrifty, low-cost, moderate-cost, and liberal. These levels assume that all meals and snacks are consumed at home which is more cost-effective than eating out. The thrifty family of four on average spends roughly $650 per month on groceries, and the liberal family spends $1000. Most families have a low-cost or moderate budget for groceries, and thus spend an average of $800.
