What is the Average Cost of Bariatric Surgery? Average Bariatric Surgery Price

Currently, the average cost of bariatric surgery in the US is between $17,000 and $35,000. But the same procedure may cost anywhere between $7000 and $13,000 on average in some of the other countries. Because of this, countries like Mexico, Belgium, Costa Rica, and India are becoming popular destinations for such procedures. There are several reasons for this variation in costs, such as higher overheads, higher wages of professionals in the region, higher taxes, higher professional liability, higher professional liability insurance charges, higher cost of living, legal stipulations, government subsidies, etc. Bariatric surgery may entail insertion of a medical device in the stomach of the patient. Alternately a part of the patient’s stomach may be removed, or a gastric bypass may be created. The object of such surgery is to help obese individuals to prevent gaining weight, or help them lose some weight. Though cosmetic in nature, this surgery has several health benefits as well. Patients undergoing such surgery tend to recover considerably from any diabetic condition they might have had, and chances of the patient developing any cardiovascular problems are also much lower. In general, obese patients who have undergone bariatric procedure improve their chances of survival.
