The average cost of living in Pennsylvania is higher than its neighboring states across all factors (except for utilities which are about 10% lower). Food prices, transportation, health and miscellaneous costs such as clothing, entertainment, restaurants and repairs range from about 5% to 15% over the average. The median listing price for houses is around $117,000 at the lower end while at the higher end it is $272,000 and, depending on location, can go over $470,000.
