What is the Average Cost of living in Japan per month/year?

Japan is one of the more expensive countries to live in with a consumer price index of just over 100. The cost of food is more expensive than other countries. Most basic food items can be purchased at the supermarket for between $2 and $3 each while a meal purchased at a restaurant is a bit under $60. Transport is dearer with a monthly pass costing about $110 while the cost of basic utilities is around $150. Housing can be expensive with a 3 bedroom apartment in the city costing over $2,200.
