What is the Apple iTablet tablet/slate computer release date?
As with all forthcoming Apple releases, the exact nature and release date of the heavily-rumored Apple slate computer remains shrouded in mystery. First, it was rumored to come out in October, then November, now unnamed sources have said that it was delayed to January/February due to manufacturing problems. Recent rumors suggest that it may be officially named the iSlate.
Does it even exist? This is hard to say, however, highly-placed sources of the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Washington Post have confirmed that it exists, as has Digitimes, a Taiwanese chip manufacturing trade newsletter.
New rumors indicate that Apple has booked conference space in San Francisco in January, and some analysts have also reported that Apple's suppliers are gearing up for the launch of a new product. Several Wall Street analysts have even gone so far as to quote estimates on first-year sales of an Apple tablet device; estimates range from about 2-3 million units sold (projected).
Some sources have suggested that it will be a slate about 7" diagonally in size, whereas others have said it will be about 10" in size. The one common theme is that it will be smaller than a notebook computer. A recent patent Application by Apple for a dynamic physical keyboard for touchscreens that can raise and lower itself dynamically suggests that the device may make use of advanced technology such as this. New gestures have been rumored to be included in the Apple Slate, including hand-cording gestures with multiple fingers, and also side-of-the-hand gestures.
