Idli is typically a South Indian food cake. It is formed by steaming a fermented combination of rice and lentils. These white spongy breakfast cakes are rich in starch and having them in the morning allows an energetic start of the day. Idli can be soaked in sambar and can include a vegetable filling as well. Semolina instead of rice can also be used. Idli are typically 2 to 3 inches in thickness. One serving provides 482 calories, 100 grams carbohydrates, 15 gram protein and 1.8 gram fat.
