What is Parmesan cheese?
Parmesan is an Italian cheese most often eaten with pasta. It is quite hard and brittle in texture but can be easily grated or ground for easy use. It’s often quite salty in flavor with rich, nutty overtones. I recommend trying it fresh grated over pasta with your favorite marinara sauce. You could also serve as part of antipasto, the Italian appetizer with vegetables, salami, and meat, served cold. Parmesan cheese is easy to buy at nearly any grocery store in the United States or elsewhere. To get imported Parmigiano-Reggiano (Parmesan in its original form) you will need to go to a specialty food store but it is well worth the effort.
