What is Jelly? Ingredients and Uses

Jelly is a type of thickened fruit juice that is used as a sweet spread or melted down as a sauce or glaze for certain desserts. Jelly is made up of a mixture of fruit juice that has been strained of all seeds and fruit skins. This clear juice is then combined with a large amount of sugar and pectin which thicken it and give the jelly is distinct, spreadable sweetness. Jelly is often spread directly onto bread or pancakes but may also be used as a glaze for such desserts as cheesecake.
