What is Diphosphate Used For? Health Benefits and Side Effects of Diphosphate in Food

Diphosphate is used in cupcake mixes, pie tops, instant pastas and sauces, muesli bars, ice-cream, and instant soups. It is used as a stabilizer, acid regulator, sequestrate and emulsifier in foods. Disodium diphosphate is used as an antidote and for widening of blood vessels. It also prevents discoloration of food. In the industries, it is used for plastic manufacturing, removing of stains from leather, and removing of feathers from poultry before slaughtering them. Diphosphate strengthens bones required for metabolism of carbohydrates and fats. It aids in enzyme actions and is an essential component of cell membrane, nucleic acid and mitochondria and is very important in production of energy. Excessive use can lead to demineralization of bones and can lead to fractures.
