Cross Linked Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose is a semi synthetic polysaccharide prepared by acidifying Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose. It is dissolved in water for use as a food Emulsifier. It is used in many products including ice creams, dairy products, bakery items, cheeses and breakfast cereals. It is also used in tablets of table- top sweeteners and dietary food supplements as it acts as a disintegrator of aqueous solutions. Health benefits include low caloric value which makes it ideal for diabetic and obese people. Side effect includes the laxative effect in some people even if a low dose of 5 gram/day is taken.
