What is Citrus Red 2 Used For? Health Benefits and Side Effects of Citrus Red 2 in Food

Citrus Red 2 is a color addictive used exclusively for coloring the skin of mature oranges. Its use as a food additive has been claimed to be prohibited by WHO, due to its carcinogenic properties revealed by several animal studies. Thus there are many chances of Citrus Red 2 to be also carcinogenic for humans. It may also cause allergies in sensitive people. According to studies, Citrus Red 2 added to diet can cause bladder tumors. Other side effects can be asthma attacks, nausea, headache, loss of concentration, hyperactivity, ADH and other attention deficit disorders, nervousness, agitation, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Studies on Citrus Red 2 health benefits are limited as it was entitled as carcinogenic and its use in food was banned.
