What is Bacillophobia? Symptoms, Causes and Treatment for Bacillophobia
The fear of microbes is known as bacillophobia. Microbes are very small organisms which are always present in our surroundings but cannot be observed by naked eye. People with this phobia are afraid of ‘bad’ organisms which cause damage and disease. Certain microbes can cause severe illnesses, and people who have such experiences suffer from bacillophobia. Symptoms vary from person to person. Some people when confronted with their fear may merely become uncomfortable, have nausea or sweating. In others it is so severe that it causes panic attacks. Other symptoms are feeling of failure to escape, feeling of disaster, hyperventilation, and muscle tension. Treatment is focused on exposure therapy, support groups and relaxation techniques.
