What is Ammonium Chloride Used For? Health Benefits and Side Effects of Ammonium Chloride

Ammonium chloride is a salt that is prepared commercially by chemically combining ammonia with hydrogen chloride. There are various uses of this product. When ammonium chloride is dissolved in water it forms an acidic liquid. These are used as buffer solutions and to produce low temperatures to cold baths. It is also used as a fertilizer and in food for the cattle. From the medical point of view, this salt is used as an expectorant in drugs for coughing. It is a complete acidifying mediator in handling of harsh metabolic alkalosis and solves problems associated with the urine. It has to be taken very cautiously because there are side effects of ammonium chloride like in some cases it can lead to the deficiency of sodium and can cause vomiting, nausea or ammonium toxicity.
