What is Agoraphobia the Fear of? Symptoms, Causes and Treatment

Agoraphobia is the fear of being outside or of being in a situation from which it is difficult to escape. One hypothesis says that this phobia develops in response to repeated exposure to anxiety related events. It also tends to run in families. Symptoms include panic attacks when one is in a situation from which escaping is difficult and rather embarrassing. Panic attacks include fear, disorientation, rapid heart beat, dizziness or diarrhea. Treatment includes psychotherapy and several effective medications. Medicines include selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors and Beta Blockers.
