What Is the Average Cost of Freon Per Pound? Average Freon Per Pound Price

The cost of Freon has risen steadily over the past several years. The average cost of Freon is $50 per pound that varies depending on location. Freon is a chemical found in many old refrigerators and A/C units. Developed by DuPont, it is used widely as it is viewed as a safe refrigerant because it is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable and non-reactive. However, doubts were raised since the 1980s whether Freon damaged the ozone layer that protects the Earth from UV radiation. Also, it has been established that most types of Freon is only harmful when they come into contact with open flame. Most of the chemicals included in Freon are known as `chlorofluorocarbons’.
