What Is A Blood Spatter Analyst?

A blood spatter analyst is a specialized job in forensic science. They are imparted with special training that other law enforcement sleuths attending a crime case necessarily may not be. A basic understanding of blood spatter analysis allows first responding officers and investigators alike to effectively assist in collecting and preserving bloodstain data. The International Association for Identification (IAI) offers its own certification in blood pattern analysis. A medium-velocity blood spatter is said to have a force of anywhere from 5 to 100 ft per second and its diameter up to 4 millimeter. High-velocity spatters that are usually caused by gunshot wounds travel more than 100 ft per second and up to 1 millimeter in diameter. The popular TV show Dexter stars a blood spatter analyst.
