NHL Referee Salary 2011

A National Hockey League (NHL) refereeā€™s salary in 2011 is $150,000. While a starting referee gets about $115,000, those with long years of experience earn up to $225,000. The salaries of an NHL referee may differ based on factors such as experience and ability to conduct the game. The career of NHL referees happened to turn colorful since the 2004-2005 season, which stood cancelled owing to disagreement on the salary levels. Following this, a salary cap was introduced that raised the financial status of the teams, players and referees on par with their counterparts in other major sports. NHL referees are well-trained in skating as ice-hockey itself is a fast-paced physical sport that carries a high risk of injury.
