Is there an HIV/AIDS Vaccine?

The spread of AIDS is one of the most serious problems facing mankind in the 21st century. While many attempts at cures have been researched over the years, none have been successful in stopping this terrible affliction. So what about a vaccine for the HIV virus? There has in fact been a great deal of research in this area in an attempt to develop an effective HIV vaccine. Rather than a curative measure, this vaccine would be for healthy individuals so as to stop the spread of the virus. Unfortunately, while there has been progress in the area, there are as of yet no working HIV/AIDS vaccines. However, there is some good news. Recent tests of a work-in-progress AIDS vaccine carried out in Thailand have shown some positive effects, although the protection seems to wear off about a year after administration. This suggests that there may soon be a fully functional and permanent vaccine for AIDS, which could potentially wipe out the disease entirely.
