Is Pasta Healthy?

Althouth pasta is high in carbohydrates, it is not at all fattening. In fact, carbohydrates are required both by the body and the brain. They provide a major source of glucose when they break down and provide the necessary energy to your body. Also, it is the only source of energy to the brain. It is true that consuming too many carbohydrates is fattening, but pasta is not so with cooked pasta having only about 200 calories per cup. Pasta sauces that contain high caloric fatty meats and creams can make it fattening, but tomato pasta sauces are not. Homemade and dried pasta contain plenty of B vitamins, folic acid and iron and remain low in sodium and cholesterol.
