Is Heartburn the same as Acid Reflux?

Heartburn and acid reflux are two closely linked conditions but are not necessarily the same thing. Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid gets into the throat and causes a burning sensation that is felt in the chest area. This burning sensation is one of the forms of heartburn. Heartburn exists in other types which are sometimes linked to stress, sleeping too soon after a meal, and can even be indicative of an impending heart attack. So is heartburn the same as acid reflux? Sometimes, but not always.
