How to make a Frappuccino at home without a machine
Making your own Frappuccino is actually a lot easier than it might sound and a lot cheaper than buying one at Starbucks every day. First brew up a cup of espresso with a stovetop espresso maker. The stovetop espresso makers are only 7$ from Target, Wal-Mart or Amazon.com and not hard to use or clean. For detailed instructions on how to use them, read our article on making espresso at home. Once the espresso has finished let it cool on the stove with its lid open while you prepare the other ingredients. Combine in a blender: 4 tablespoons of sugar, a cup of milk, 2 cups of ice. Add the coffee in last and blend on high until it’s nice and smooth. Serves 3.
Tips and Variations
Cool or chill the coffee in advance.
Drink it with a straw. It can be hard to drink directly.
Add whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top before serving.
For a mocha frappuccino, add 3 tablespoons of chocolate syrup to the blender before grinding. You can also melt one ounce of semi-sweet chocolate into the hot coffee. Stir well to help it mix.
For a vanilla frappuccino, add ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract before mixing.
For a caramel frappuccino, add 3 tablespoons of caramel sundae topping before mixing.
For a Java chip style frappuccino, add 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup before mixing. Halfway through blending (once the ice is in small chunks, about 1 minute), add in 4 tablespoons of chocolate chips or chocolate covered coffee beans and finish blending.
