Electrician Education Requirements

According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) is what that is required to become an electrician. Apart from high school, there are vocational and technical schools that offer the education needed to become an electrician. Training in an electrician apprenticeship, however, enables to specialize in the field. An electrician apprentice can complete an education program in a span of 4 years. Though a formal electrician education is generally not necessary, it may be helpful in the advancement of a career. Organizations such as the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee provide listings of available state-level apprenticeship.
