Average Cost of Cancer Treatment 2011

Cancer is the number two killer disease in the US, next only to heart disease. Thousands of lives are lost to various types of cancer every year and the US government has been doing its best to offer necessary cancer care to the affected. The average cost of cancer treatment in 2011 is $38,000, excluding related expenses such as psychological counseling, consultation and hospital stay. Usually, the cost is determined by the severity of the disease and the body part it affects. The rising cost of drugs, particularly the sophisticated medicines, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy techniques have together contributed to the increase in treatment expenses.
