Are Tomato Leaves Poisonous?

Tomato leaves can be poisonous, particularly the stems and leaves. They contain an alkaloid that can interfere with the working of the central nervous system as well as cause serious gastro digestion distress. The name of this substance is called tomatine. It is found in the fruit as well, but in very low dosages that don’t cause harm to humans. But the leaves and the stems if ingested are very poisonous and can send you on a trip to the hospital. Because of this, wear gloves when working on your tomato plants and make sure to not accidentally ingest a leaf or part of the stem.
